Pros: Size and warranty.
Cons: none……so far
Overall Review: Use to be a Seagate man until I had two drive crash just after the 3 year warranty. It’s just a home media server so I didn’t think it would work drives any more that a gaming PC. Lesson learned, spent the extra cash on WD Red because it’s built for servers.
Working Great, will buy another soon.
New Egg Rocks!
Pros: Quiet and reasonably fast.
Cons: Of the 2 I ordered, one of them is great and the other was DOA.
NewEgg handles this superbly as always but, I wanted to try WD after having an almost 50% DOA rate with Seagate Constellations. Unfortunately, no better but no worse.
Overall Review: Don’t know what is up with HDD manufacturers these days. Maybe my luck is bad. When I was buying Seagate, I just started ordering half-again as many as I needed because there were always some bad ones. Looks like switching to WD didn’t help. I suppose our S.O.P. must always be to order 50% more drives than you need because half of them are going to be bad right out of the box.
But, I sincerely appreciate how quickly and completely NewEgg handles the RMAs.
Pros: Disks were easy to install in Synology 214+ chassis.. both were packed well, and work perfectly. Very quiet drive operation.
Cons: None
Overall Review: If you’re thinking of getting NAS such as a Sinology system, I recommend these Western Digital Red Pro 3TB disks. They work very well.
Pros: Fast, I do a lot of video Editing and it works great. I have two of these and never a problem.
Cons: None yet.
Pros: Fast, Reliable, Good packaging, No Failures.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Overall Review: I’ve been a fan of using the proper drive for the job for a long time. Recently put 4 of these in a NAS where the original WD Black drives were installed by previous IT Tech. Black are good for desktop, but these are great for NAS and Local Storage. Get the right drive for the job.
Pros: i bought 8 of these for our synology NAS. very good performance, no bad sectors on all 8 disks so far. happy with product.
Cons: none
Pros: Bought 5, they showed up quickly. Bought another one and it’s been a three weeks and still waiting…
Cons: Of the five drives one showed up as defective. Could not register one of the drives on the WD website for product registration. Called WD, spoke with someone who could barely speak English. I am OK with that. Two days later i hear the product was manufactured 16 May 2014 and i bought it on September 25th 2017. So they sell old stuff. Now WD wants me to proof that after payment $255.99 per drive that they are new. Really? I have to proof they are new? This is very disappointing after providing them proof of purchase showing what i bought, when it was bought etc.
Overall Review: Another drive showed a different serial number on the NAS drive than on the outside of the drive. All in all this is turning into a disappointing experience. New Egg for associating themselves with sellers like EZON and WD for not looking after someone who just bought 6 very expensive drives from them.
What would i like from WD: is to honor the warranty, No questions asked.
I would like New Egg to properly handle the hassle from EZON and not make their costumer deal with that nonsense.
I would like EZON to note that these are very old drives, properly describe what they are selling.

Pros: Fast, quiet (for enterprise class drives), stays pretty cool under heavy load (42C) in our server rack-mount chassis with 12x of these running, price per TB
Cons: This is more of a con in general about hdd drives today.
Drives are getting to the sizes that when one fails, it takes a LONG time to resync the arrays leaving data at risk during the resync. And yes I know anyone who is in data center IT has multiple copies of things in different computers and off-site, but those still don’t help the whole “takes forever to restore / resync” issues of today’s large drives/arrays.
Overall Review: Watch out for Shoprunner shipping!!! Sometimes you get what you pay for. The first set of drives we received looked directly like the box out of Ace Ventura’s Pet Detective opening scene! If I could attach a picture of the box I would…the top was crashed down to about 1/2 height, 3 of the 4 sides were caved in…needless to say, NONE of the first set of drives was functional with every one of them exhibiting the classic buzz/click from a drive with a stuck head on a platter inside. 10 stars to Newegg for the free two-way shipping and issuing out replacement drives as soon as UPS had scanned the RMA tracking lable into their system to replace all of the drives that were obviously damaged in shipping with no fault on Newegg’s part. The drives were individually bubble packed with additional bubble packs filling the space in the box which should have been more than enough if the box had been handled with even an ounce of care from the shipping company.
We replaced 12x 2TB Seagate drives with these because in the past two years sense we bought the Seagate drives, 2 have failed and 2 more have had issues where they randomly drop out of the array and cause the whole thing to enter degraded mode before the drives randomly show back up. The Seagates also seem to run a bit warm at 52~54C under load in our rack.
We are using an Adaptec 7805H card for dual raid10 (4x drives per raid10), Intel Xeon E3-1246, 32GB Kingston ecc ram, Intel C226 based motherboard (providing the other 4x SATA ports for OS and VM drives) inside a Rosewill RSV-L4412 4U rack-mount chassis.
Pros: Size and warranty.
Cons: none……so far
