Cons: shipped USPS would have preferred quicker method of shipping
Pros: These drives are fast, and have a well rounded set of features that for my needs make them a better choice than the SSD options currently available. Up until the most recent drives purchased, I have had pretty good luck with the entire raptor series.
Cons: I have had 2 of these drives catastrophically fail within 2 months, and have had another drive begin to show signs of failure, such as falling out of array, I/O errors and paging operation timeouts. I know there is an issue with getting hard drives right now, but it seems they may have thrown quality out of the window. These drives fail right after the 30-day warranty for Newegg is up, which adds to the frustration. Just ordered a replacement for the bad drive, so hopefully I get a good drive, but these are supposed to be enterprise-class drives. I don’t think I should be having so many problems for the amount they sell for. I really hope my RE3 drives don’t follow suit.
Overall Review: Not really any other options anymore for hard drives…especially if you want the higher speed without going solid-state. I tested the heck out of these drives before putting them into builds, so good luck finding a bad hard drive before it dies while you have all of your data loaded on it.

Overall Review: This drive is sold as a standard 2.5″ laptop drive. However, it’s about 3/16″ thicker than any other laptop drive I’ve ever seen. It’s the proper width and length, but it won’t fit in a laptop drive bay unless you have a lot of empty space in your case (which is increasingly unlikely in a laptop). So, it’s an expensive brick for me — maybe I’ll add it to my desktop, or set it up as an external drive, but it’s NOT useful as a laptop drive. You’ve been warned!

Pros: Currently searching for an additional laptop drive and was curious WHAT laptop drive is 10,000 RPM. . . oh, a Raptor, yeah I knew that, yet, half a dozen others don’t. These Raptors have been on the market for YEARS; They came out in 36GB, 73GB, 150GB, 300GB, and I believe there is now a 600GB; They get their incredible performance from the FACT that they are a 2.5″ drive size, not a bigger 3.5″ drive with a bigger, HEAVIER platter, which reduces spin up time, not to mention it’s at 10K RPM vs 7200. These drives to my knowledge have always had ONLY ONE platter on them, making them spin up fast, have low drag on the motor so they last a LONG TIME; that’s why they are classified as commercial style drives; I bought the 150GB drive back in summer of ’08 which has been my OS drive for some time now; I was amazed that a 10K drive is NEAR SILENT; I believe they have sound dampening inside the cover; Their performance is outstanding! Don’t complain about price, you get what you pay for.
Cons: Warning…don’t buy this for a laptop. There, I said it. IF you can get that huge heatsink off, it still won’t fit in a laptop. There are plenty of 7200 rpm solutions available; as drive DENSITY’s have gone up with technology, the drive sizes have followed; years back in my technical readings a single platter could hold only 333GB (which is 320GB drive with 1 platter full use, so a 640GB drive had 2 platters at 100% useage, and a 500Gb drive didn’t use all the space available, but manufacture’s wanted to be able to sell “more then 250GB, but at a reduced price in between the top and bottom, to sell more drives) It’s simple marketing. You see how drives are (in Gig’s) 20, 40, 80, 120, 160, 320, 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, and NOW, 3000 GIG; They have simply applied various DENSITIES per square inch on the platters.
Overall Review: Of the almost $15,000+ I’ve spent with NewEgg since 2002, approx $4000 was on my own system back in summer 2008; I do tech support and build systems for many people, and just last Xmas I bought this G73 ASUS which has an awesome review over there for anyone wanting a Gaming grade laptop with extreme performance and money isn’t the primary concern. I thought I would spend a few minutes writing / warning people don’t buy a Raptor for a Laptop….they are made for commercial “blades”, high input output (“I/O”) performance servers and of course our desktops. One of these days I will buy another one to put my OS in RAID AND have a high speed “Scratch” partition at the end that will meet the speed RECEIVING 4GB files from a Raid Movie array of 4 drives; Raid read speeds are outrageous and you can have numerous simultaneous reads with multiple drives; These are the kind of drives that can handle that; I’ll come back from time to time. . hope I get a bunch of “YES’s” for my review!

Pros: One thing Paul & Newegg should note: THIS Item is a result from searching for LAPTOP HARD DRIVES. That alone justifies Shakel’s opinion that you should include the specs.
Cons: Shut up paul.
Overall Review: Newegg, if you list something as laptop capable, be sure it actually is before you make it a search result for LAPTOP hard drives.

Overall Review: V-raptors are 2 1/2 inch drives that are usually sold as desktop drives mounted in 5 1/4 inch heat sinks. This is apparently just the drive. I had heard that V-raptors are not really usable as laptop drives because they use too much power and would run your battery down fast, and might put out too much heat for a laptop. However, maybe if you have some kind of big gaming laptop with good cooling that you run as a kind of portable substitute desktop, plugged into the wall most of the time, you might be able to fit a V-raptor into your laptop, possibly with some case modification if it is too thick.
