Pros: Newegg Shipped Fast product does what it says it does. No problems!
Cons: None
Pros: Price. So far a solid drive. Quiet
Cons: none
Pros: Replaced a bad drive, with this, worked perfectly
Cons: none
Pros: Single platter, 2 heads makes very quick work of transfers. In fact I got a peak of 77.4mb/s transfer however 61.8 was avg (YMMV – depends on SATA Controller your laptop has – Atom users, good luck).
7200.4 Seagates (fastest SATA 2.5″ drive’s BTW – same transfer rates of 3.5″ HD’s) avg over 76mb/s. Low power consumption. Quiet and smooth. Barely audible. On par with WD Blue and Samsung M7 series in terms of performance. Quality… Apple uses Toshiba and Fujitsu as OEM and they never seem to fail as often as others… Seems rugged and reliable.
Cons: .3 oz heavier than most… This I was told was the type of bearing and shields used in the Toshiba drives. Samsung’s weigh in on avg .4 oz less.
Hey, they asked for a Con… You won’t notice the weight. You might appreciate the better quality though.
Overall Review: 2.5″ drives in 5400rpm form still consume more power than they should. Since most people (I read a survey from Google – I think it was google – that said the average space consumption most people have on laptops was around 64gb) don’t store much information on a laptop or simply don’t store much at all (Good, smart, use an external drive designed for long term data storage) and most people complain about speed… SSD drives would better suite most of us. They may cost 3x’s more but you’ll get 10x’s faster laptop thus negating the need for a new laptop in 3 years.
It’s the truth, look it up. You’ll also get double battery life. Why not buy one, save the OEM drive, and when it’s time to ditch it swap the OEM drive back in and move the SSD to your new machine (Mac users know what I’m talking about – Migration Assistant).
Pros: Light, quiet, reliable
Cons: none
Overall Review: This hard drive sat in my Toshiba laptop for about 2 years before I upgraded it, never failed me once. after I upgraded I bought a Rosewill enclosure, and installed it in there, about a year later I dropped the whole thing pretty solidly and when I plugged it in, the hard drive made the dreaded clicking sound.
I figured that was it and put the thing in a drawer and forgot about it… a few months later I pulled it out because I wanted to reuse the enclosure… just for kicks I plugged it in with the toshiba hard drive in there…. it lit right up and the HD started spinning like nothing happened… it was back from the dead!!! I am using it right now after almost 4 years of being not treated very well and even being broken once.
Pros: Toshiba service department, rma is excellent. And you’ll need it.
Cons: Second drive in 9 months.
Overall Review: Wife’s kids laptop. Would crash every two months. First drive finally went after 6 months. Returned to Toshiba for repair in February. Now second drive has failed after 2 months. Thankfully under warrenty. Wouldn’t pay for it. Get something, anything else.
Pros: capacity, price, decent speed
Cons: didn’t last more than 6 mos.
