Pros: 3.0 TB is relatively large capacity for a 2½” drive.
This is the largest capacity drive that the TiVo Bolt can partition and format on its own.
Cons: At 15 mm thick, this is not a drive for laptops.
Documentation from Seagate is lacking for which drives use their problematic high-density Shingled Magnetic Recording technology vs. the faster and more reliable Perpendicular Magnetic Recording technology.
Overall Review: I opened up my TiVo Bolt, replaced the original 500 GB WD drive with this 3.0 TB Seagate and powered it back up to give it the same storage capacity as the new Bolt+.
Pros: Small and quiet
Cons: none so far
Pros: Seagate has very good product support
Cons: Drive giving me problems already less then 6 mounts after perched.
Overall Review: I perched this back in Feb 2017. Expecting this drive to last me many years like all my Seagate drives have over the years. Only to have problems less then 6 mounts later. I called Seagate and told them the problem and how it was diagnosed and withen no time at all I have a replacement. As always with such a good company. Any one that complanes about Seagate’s customer service is doing something wrong. Just be aware of this particular drive. But then again I might have just gotten a lemon this time.
Pros: Painless installation and initialization, but watch the Youtube video for details on opening the case
Cons: No issues
Pros: Good capacity, 4TB in such a small form factor is awesome.
Cons: I went through I think 15 of these before giving up. I know they aren’t NAS drives, however I’ve used the 2TB models for months and months without issue. WIth these the drives would work for a few days, then the HBA would lose connection to them. Could have been bad luck, but I’ve decided to stick with 2TB drives for now in my ceph cluster.
