Pros: Worked GREAT for 2 months!
Cons: Unfortunately, after noticing I hadn’t backed up any important data in the past couple months, my brand new SeaGate froze and became unacceptable. My only advice is to buy a different brand till SeaGate straightens out these kinks.
Pros: Great drive thus far in my usage. I came off of a 320GB/7200RPM/16MB WD drive (the model without the gravity/fall sensor like this drive has) because I needed more space and this fit the bill.
At first, I was a little bit nervous about changing HDD brands, because I was fine with the noise output of my ‘old’ WD 320GB drive but at the same time WD currently doesn’t make a 500GB 2.5″ drive at 7200RPM, so I decided to purchase this and I’m glad I did.
Before, I had always kind of assumed Seagate drives put out more noise compared to WD drives based on my experience with the respective brands’ desktop drives, but this drive doesn’t seem any noisier than my previous 320GB/7200RPM WD drive was. I can hear it seek sometimes, but you may not be able to depending on your laptop’s design, I suppose.
Performance seems the same, too, I suppose because this drive and my previous WD both have 16MB buffers and spin at the same RPMs.
See other thoughts.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: This drive has the built-in gravity/fall sensor (as denoted by the ‘G’ at the end of the model number), which enables the drive to detect a sudden drop and park the read/write heads off of the spinning platters on which your data resides.
Also, for what it’s worth, I installed this drive in a Dell Latitude E6400. Also Newegg packaged the drive perfectly!
Pros: Fast Boot
Fast Operation of Netbook.
Quiet does not vibrate laptop.
Cons: Bad Reviews make me nervous. I can’t say how it will hold up longterm.
Overall Review: I can’t count off because of other reviews. My use so far has been very good. I just cloned my original drive and popped it in. Worked first time and has continued to perform very well for me. It does NOT approach SSD speeds. But I needed a big drive and wanted it fast. The SSD’s are outragous in the 256GB size. This was a good compromise.
Pros: None
Cons: I am on drive number 3 and it has just failed.
Overall Review: Garbage. Do not buy this drive. BE WARNED!
Pros: The drive is fast. Especially with sequential writes
Cons: This hard drive is manufactured by Seagate. I had this drive for less than 3 months and it begin to show errors. It failed completely another month later. That was a total of 4 months ownership, with only 3 with normal use. This is the second drive that has failed from Seagate (the first was the drive originally installed in my Mac Book Pro at purchase.) Seagate has to step up their game if they want to play in this market. Please avoid ALL Seagate drives to protect your investment, and properly motivate this company to produce a quality product.
Pros: Big, Quiet, Fast
Cons: None as long as it doesn’t die soon
Overall Review: I installed this drive in my 13″ MacBook Pro and it works just as it should. The best thing about this drive is that it doesn’t make that popping sound my OEM (fujitsu) drive makes
Pros: Great drive for $110 at the time of purchase (2.12.2010)
Noticeably faster than previous my Hitachi 250GB 5400RPM Drive
Extremely quick application launch, renders 30GB iTunes library noticeably quicker than 5400RPM Drive
Games render faster and smoother
Wake up speed have decreased
Installation of 10.6 Snow Leopard was 30minutes (45 Minutes on 250GB 5400RPM)
Installation of Drive, OS and Restoration of Time Machine Backups = 2 Hours
Cons: Uses more power than 5400RPM Drive
Slightly louder than older drive
Overall Review: Current Configuration:
Macbook Pro 13 2.53 4GB 10.6.2 Snow Leopard
Great drive for those who need a lot of storage! Considering getting an additional one or an SSD and an optibay for a total of 1TB of storage or using the SSD to boot from and the other drive for storage in the Macbook Pro

Pros: Good storage space
Good speed
Cons: Drive lasted 4 months before showing signs of failure. For the warranty replacement, I had to pay $20 shipping for a refurb drive. The refurb drive showed signs of failure within 2 weeks.
