Pros: Great drives and great price.
Cons: Poor packaging in shipping. I ordered 30 hard drives total. 10 of these, 10 other laptop drives and 10 desktop ones. The 20 laptop drives were simply thrown into a box with one thin piece of bubble wrap covering them and nothing around each drive. There is no physical damage apparent but there was nothing to stop them from bouncing all around and into one another. Not an appropriate way to ship sensitive hard drives.
Overall Review: The price with free shipping is hard to beat. However if free shipping means no packaging materials in the box I will shop elsewhere. I have contacted customer support and have made a note of my issue and they are supposedly passing it on to the warehouse manager to see what happened.
Pros: PATA interface (what I needed)
Swapped in to the stock cradle without problems.
Quiet and fast compared to the old drive.
Cons: Price was still high compared with SATA notebook drives of similar size.
Overall Review: Had an older Dell laptop that I am fixing up for a friend. The original HD was bad and this was reasonably priced replacement. Performance is noticeably faster than the other drive. Great Newegg service and shipping. ThX!
Pros: Drive works great in my dell laptop. no complaints. Seagate makes good drives have a 12 year old one that has been on about that long and it still works too.
Cons: no complaints so far
Overall Review: Would buy again but most likely go bigger
Pros: Cheap – wish I could give it ZERO eggs
Cons: Garbage – the most unreliable drives I’ve seen in over 20 years. Two failed in five months. The only thing worse is Seagate’s support. Even if their desktop and server drives were the best in the world- I would not be willing to chance having to call Tech Support.
Overall Review: I bought this to replace my original Hitachi drive which failed after more than three years of near-constant use in my Dell notebook. That was in August. In October, the Seagate failed, just went completely dead. I had to pay them $20 to quickly get a replacement, which was a refurbished drive. That drive failed after three months, and after I had added additional cooling to my machine. I called Tech support FIVE (5!) times. The hold time ranged from 40 minutes to more than an hour. My last call took a total of 93 minutes. Initially the drive appeared to be good, according to Seagate’s testing utilities, though I was not able to get the machine to boot from it- but after a couple of weeks of fooling with it and enduring Seagates endlessly repeating on-hold tune, I got the click of death. I had to call back and talk to Customer service. Beware that the refurbished drives only carry a 90-day warranty. Seagate tried to limit the warranty of the new drive to that of the refurb.
Pros: The space was great. I ran two operating systems (win XP and gentoo linux) stable for a while. That’s all I can say.
Cons: Beware of Seagate’s supposedly fantastic 5-year warranty. As of now, I have waited 2 months for a replacement of my hard drive that died only 6 months after I bought it. I’m still waiting – they are claiming inventory problems. Ridiculous. After repeated emails, they continue to be unsympathetic and unwilling to take other steps to replace the drive.
Pros: High capacity for notebook drive.
Cons: OEM drive comes with no instructions, no support. Does not work properly with the cloning software that comes with the bundled Apricorn enclosure. Don’t buy the bundle.
Overall Review: To correctly format the drive and not get any errors, Seagate recommends using Seatools, which is available free on their website.
Pros: This drive is faster than my 100gb drive and now I have even more room plus speed boost. lightning fast delivery as usual.
Cons: Price is high but coming down FAST for such high volume laptop drives – I can’t wait for the 200gb to come out in the fall.
Overall Review: If you got cash and need the want integrated room on your laptop – you won’t regret this purchase!

Pros: Plugged into my Twinhead Durabook running SuSE 10.1 and never looked back. Fast, quiet, cool and plenty of room. This is my 4th Seagate Momentus perpendicular recording drive, and all are still in daily operation with no problems. Low power and heat dissipation is great, as in a ruggidized laptop the drive is enclosed in shock-mounting which limits the heat transfer to radiation and very modest airflow. No problems with extended operation (24+ hr continuous) or high ambient temp operations.
Cons: A bit pricey (bought it early in the product cycle), but worth the cost if you need a single large capacity laptop drive with extended environmental capability.
Overall Review: Been running with no glitches for nearly 6 months, but I really need a 200GB drive now…
