Pros: This Samsung Spinpoint M9T 2TB is a fantastic little drive for the price. Of course, when I say little, I only mean in physical size, becasue you get a ton of storage.

Now that we got all of that out of the way…

While some of the numbers are not as impressive as other drives on the market, those other drives are also don’t offer 2TB of capacity. So the trade off makes a lot more sense when you take that into account.

It also pays to mention that this drive never draws over 3W during operation, and it idles under 1W. I don’t have the tools necessary to give exact power draw numbers that are more specific. It’s low power draw is a huge plus for mobile use.

During my testing, I put the drive under a host of “real world” use to see how it would perform on common tasks most users would likely do. I had no problems playing back HD video from the HDD while still performing other general tasks. Game load times are what you would expect from such a drive. It also had no problems keeping up with multi-tasking.

At no time did the drive feel “slow”, it performed as expected, and better in some cases. A credit to the

Overall, I think Samsung (technically Seagate since they bought the HDD division of Samsung) has a great drive in the M9T. This is a wonderful option for those looking for large storage capacity, but would still like performance as well.

Other than dropping it into your laptop, this would make a fantastic high capacity drive for an HTPC or other small form factor setup. In fact, that’s where this drive is going for the long haul. I will drop another review here if I run into any problems, or if there are any noteworthy developments as it runs in my gaming HTPC.

So in closing, I would easily recommend this drive. It’s specs, price, and performance make it a very competitive product!

Pros: This drive is an easy install and will fit most notebook computers. I mounted this on in an Acer, Toshiba, and Lenovo notebook computer. They all recognized the drive and install the proper SATA drivers.

The first install was Windows 7 in an Acer 5742z-4200 with 4GB of DDR3 memory. I expected a slow install since the drive is a 5400rpm drive and not an SSD or a 7200rpm drive. Windows 7 installed at a moderate pace and was completed with updates in 45 minutes.

Second install was in a Toshiba TECRA R840-S8430 with Windows 8.1Pro. Needless to say I was quite impressed with the installation performance using Windows 8. Complete installation with updates was less than 30 minutes.

Third install was a cloning of a 320GB Windows 7 HDD to the 2TB drive. This too was surprising…the entire cloning process in a stand-alone drive and cloning dock was 1 hour, 10 minutes. This was quite slow considering other drives that I have cloned. Once cloned the drive was then partitioned into two 931GB HDD. Once all was complete the drive operated at speeds consistent with 7200rpm drives and slightly below the speed of some SSDs.

The last install was the cloning of a HDD Drive from a Lenovo Ideapad U460 Windows 8 HDD. Again the cloning process took more than an hour (1:10). The size of the drives must be a factor, this was from a 1TB (Lenovo) to the 2TB Samsung.

Once the installs were complete I let the drive stay loaded for72 hours in each Notebook. The final re-installation and registration of software was in the Toshiba TECRA R840-S8430 with 8GB of DDR3 memory. This setup has been running fine with no noticeable defects. For everyday use this drive will fit the needs of most users. There is not a noticeable difference in speed of this 5400rpm drive and the 7200rpm Samsung or Western Digital drives I used in this test installation.

Cons: At this point and time I have not noticed any failure or potential failure in this drive. It performs with some of the better HDD on the market.

Overall Review: When I first received this drive I cloned my 250GB laptop hard drive over to this drive and installed it in my laptop. I did not time it but it was some where around an hour which was some what slow but you have to remember I was dealing with 2 5400 rpm drives. Everything went flawless with no issues. File transfer rates were about were I figured they would be for this type of drive. I will not bore you with all the numbers but if you are purchasing this drive you are going for size not blazing speed. I did end up taking it out of my laptop and putting an ssd in it because I do not store a whole lot on my laptop. I really needed storage in my PlayStation so I installed it in there, formatted it and everything has been smooth sailing since. I believe this drive would work good for a camera dvr system or possibly a media center pc like someone else has stated. Bottom line is if you are looking for some storage space for a small confinement you will not go wrong with this drive. It is priced right, is quiet and seems to be very compatible.

Pros: 2TB storage in such a compact size, great for any Laptop or PC.
The ‘NoiseGuard’ / ‘Silentseek’ technologies are nice. A quiet drive is nice. Even better on a fast reading drive like this one.

The drive came without a SATA cable, mounting screws or a Power cable adapter. As an upgrade they will not be needed and as a new install, most builders have the tools and other to install this.

Overall Review: PC or Laptop.. as part of the EggXpert review team I decided to install this for testing in my Toshiba laptop. The install was simple and using Windows 7 64bit this was recognized immediately. Yes, it takes time to do a full restore but it’s worth it. We store so much storage consuming pictures, videos, music and other needs for work and play that 2TB is a perfect size for just about everyone. And with this small frame giant (2TB) it will make it easier to have it all on hand. After all the updates and final programs etc. were installed, I see performance improvement in my laptop, with just a 2.3GHz (dual core)CPU with 4GB memory and now a 2TB storage drive.

This will be great in many applications.. HTPC, Desktop, DVR, Security storage, NAS and more. Even improving your portable/external drives capacity. I took time here to look at other 2.5″ HDD’s and this one is a suggest to buy. It is a great value when compared, and an amazingly small size for a 2TB drive.

Pros: Samsung continues to make a worthy HDD. I have never had a problem with Samsung products when building computers. I started using Samsung products in 1999 and have continued to do so every since. You cannot go wrong purchasing a Samsung HDD. The two year warranty is basically hassle free…I have only used it twice for desktop drives and never for a notebook drive. This is your basic drive at 5400 RPM, but it performs as if it is an 7200 RPM drive. It does not compare to an SSD, but it is a great deal for a 500 GB HDD.

Cons: None at this time.

Overall Review: Still waiting to see if the merger with Seagate will make or break Samsung reliability or make it even better.

Overall Review: Purchased this to replace a dead hard drive in a client’s machine and it worked great. The client wanted 500 GB’s but didn’t want to speed over $60 and this drive was a perfect match.

Pros: Perfect replacement for OEM laptop drives that go bad.
Easy install. Quick response times. Low heat output. Very quiet.
Withstands certain motions effortlessly, although, I don’t suggest you abuse the drive. All mechanical hard drives are susceptible to failure from impact.

Cons: None.

Pros: I am pleased with this notebook hard drive, it gives you plenty of storage space from the boring standard 500gb hard drives that come in most laptops now days.
2 terabytes for your laptop is great means lots of space for all the music, movies, programs, and whatever else you want to keep.
I didn’t get to test this on a notebook but did test it in my PC tower in one of my SSD mounting slots, tested it as a storage drive which it worked very well for and takes up very little space be perfect for a small home HTPC setup where you want the smallest footprint for space on your entertainment stand.
I also tested this as a main OS drive in my PC tower just to compare it to my 7200 rpm sata 3 drive since this is 5400 rpm sata 3, and was surprised that I didn’t notice very much difference between the two in terms of boot times or operations of programs and such, so this would make a great drive to build a small mini ITX HTPC build.
I didn’t compare it to my SSD drive as I know there wouldn’t be much contest there.
Overall this drive works great on sata 3 for a pc or for a notebook upgrade.
It is stated that it is capable of being used to upgrade your PS4 I haven’t tried that but, if so then for the price it would be a good upgrade for that too.
It reads and writes fast enough for everyday use and is quiet compared to a normal desktop hard drive.

Cons: I haven’t found any cons for this drive so far, except my personal con that my wife wouldn’t let me use her notebook to test it in so I had to pop it in an SSD slot in my PC tower but that has nothing to do with this drive lol.

Overall Review: All in all I recommend this drive for whatever use you might need it for and the price isn’t bad either for a 2 terabyte notebook drive, also it is nice and slim so size is great also.
