The SpinPoint M Series 40 GB Notebook Hard Drive combines almost-silent operation with exceedingly low seek and latency times to make an almost unbeatable package. It’s the proprietary “SilentSeek” technology that does the trick, which minimizes the noise from the heads and actuator, bringing this drive to within 1 (one!) decibel of the quietest we’ve ever seen. Power consumption helps, by staying down under only 3 watts!
Exclusive technology keeps the read/write head off the disk when not in use, enhancing energy efficiency and reliability. The SpinPoint series’ MTBF is 330,000 hours, so you can be sure this drive will give you many years of solid service, like all the products from Samsung. They’re aware that their future lies in the hands of the customer, and so provides a three year warranty.

Pros: Worked fairly well for a couple of months.
Cons: Ran VERY hot. Could feel it through laptop; no other laptop drive I’ve used does this.
Drive died after 5 months; newegg refused to replace (since they no longer have 1+ year warranties…).
I’ll be shopping elsewhere.
Pros: I bought this to replace a damaged hard drive – the laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200) found it right away and I was able to start reloading the software right away

Overall Review: Bought this to replace a defective drive and is holding up under daughters abuse so far. 😉
Pros: Caveman-simple install. Also completely silent…I have to stick my ear on the laptop to hear this thing. New life for an old laptop. Samsung makes great stuff and New Egg rocks as usual.

Overall Review: Hard drives die. Fact of life. Death and taxes: get over it! Have a regular back up plan and stick to it. Laptop’s back with no harm done.
Pros: Drive works great, no problems thus far. Paid for at 8pm, arrived at my door 10am the next morning with ups ground shipping. Props to Newegg and ups.

Overall Review: buy this if you don’t want to spend a lot and don’t need a lot of storage.

Pros: I got this for its low power consumption to use in a external USB enclosure. It works just fine on 1 USB cord. Some other drives require 2 USB cords to get enough power to the drive.

Pros: The original Toshiba MK3021GAS just died in my Gateway 200ARC, so I got this to replace it. Works great so far, its even slightly faster!

Pros: I bought this drive to replace the aging Fujitsu 4gig 4200rpm drive that came in my Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop. This drive put new life into that old laptop! The screaming bearings from the Fujitsu are a thing of the past. In fact, this drive is so quiet that I can only hear it when working in the small hours of the morning when everyone else is asleep! Installed very easily (just make sure you pull the adapter off the old drive first) and took all the software quickly and easily. The 5400rpm with 8mb cache is noticeably faster, too! The machine now boots in less than 90 seconds, where it used to take a little over 3 minutes. Newegg’s shipping was very prompt, too!
Cons: Ummmmm … it won’t make my processor run faster? Otherwise, I can’t think of any!
