Pros: Inexpensive with rebate
Cons: Unreliable
Overall Review: I bought this drive to put it in a laptop, but didn’t realize I needed an adapter. By the time I bought the adapter, I had it more than the 30 day return period. After hooking it up and installing Linux on it, I would get CRC errors, and Linux wouldn’t boot from it unless it was warmed up first. I ran diagnostics from Hitachi, but they would hang.
After talking to Hitachi, I have returned the drive, using the packaging that Newegg shipped it in originally (bubble wrap and peanuts). After I shipped it back, I saw on Hitachi’s packaging requirements for warranty returns that bubble wrap and peanuts was not acceptable packaging. That’s right, Newegg is shipping drives with packaging that the manufacturer will use to reject a warranty return.
It remains to be seen if Hitachi will void the warranty, but according to http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/packaging.htm, I expect them to.
Pros: it runs fast for a 5400rpm drive. its even faster then my old Fujitsu 160gb 7200rpm hard drive, due to each platter being more dense on this drive. plus it doesn’t heat up as much. i noticed the max temps under load were 37C, which is pretty good for a laptop hard drive. It also runs quietly.
Cons: i notice a little “ticking” sound sometimes when its loading, but its very quiet, and you won’t even notice it unless your looking for it
Overall Review: Overall, a very well made hard drive. right now 320gb hard drives are at the “sweet spot” in terms of capacity vs price. I noticed that loading times for windows, and other applications remained the same as with 7200 rpm drives. i’d highly recommend this drive to anyone looking for a laptop upgrade.
Pros: Purchased to upgrade my 40GB PS3 hard drive. After backing up my PS3 it was a matter of pulling out the old and dropping in the new. PS3 boots right up and your ready to go. Great cheap upgrade
Cons: none
Pros: Installed on a 2009 model white macbook (the one with the 9400m) and the hard drive works perfectly.
Its a silent and fast as the stock 120gb drive that came with my computer.
This a deal: get it!
Cons: Installing a hard drive is always difficult due to data transfer but that’s the case with any hard drive
Overall Review: Amazing hard drive for an amazing price
Pros: None
Cons: DOA, and a week later still not replacement, and a bill for returning the DOA drive. I feel warm inside.
Pros: Quiet, good price
Cons: I lost all my trophies – Not the drives fault
Overall Review: Bought this to upgrade my PS3, runs great
Pros: For new MacBook Pro (Late ’08). Easiest drive I’ve ever installed. Also the cheapest (only $50 after rebate!).
Cons: None yet
Overall Review: This is the exact same model as the HD in the new MacBook Pro, with 320GB instead of 250. FYI: You will need a Torx 6 driver to remove the 4 mounting screws from the old drive and put them in the new drive. That’s not mentioned anywhere in the owners guide. Other than that, it’s a matter of minutes. Thank you, Apple. Enjoy your extra storage space!

Pros: I got this drive to replace the 200GB drive in my Macbook Pro. Upon replacement it turns out the 200GB drive that came with it was a Hitachi drive that was almost the same is the new 320GB one, other than their capacities. Because of this, my hard drive sound is still nice and quiet as it was before. There are some speed improvements on my new drive compared to the old one. I choose this drive because after doing some research online with benchmarks and such it turned out this drive uses the least power of any of the 320GB drives and is also the fastest in most tests.
Cons: None I can think of.
Overall Review: If you want a 320GB 2.5″ drive, in my opinion this is your best option.
Pros: Inexpensive with rebate
Cons: Unreliable
