Pros: – Works well, I use it for storage.
Cons: – Even with the updated USB connection (yes I’ve plugged it into the appropriate usb port on my new motherboard) it’s still a slow external drive.
– It runs very hot, I have it unplugged right now and point a fan on it when it is running.
– It claims to have ‘active cooling’ which I stupidly took to mean ‘internal fan’ but it definitely doesn’t
it’s covered in plastic which doesn’t help it dissapate heat.
– This is slower than most internal drives, for gaming
Overall Review: It’s cheap, unplug it when you’re not using it. Probably not designed to be left on day in and day out. It runs VERY HOT and has a cheap plastic casing. I wouldn’t buy it again.
I’m only giving it 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 because it was the cheapest option available on newegg. If I knew it had heat issues I’d have bought a better drive and spent more on i t.

Pros: I bought this product to hold my collosal library of Steam Games. Easy to setup, easy to use – I haven’t noticed any latency at all when trying to load games. The best part is, if I want to use my steam games on another PC, I can just bring the drive with me!
Cons: The Data cable could be a bit longer, it would make it easier to leave it set up on the desk rather than next to/behind the PC tower. Also wish they would sell additional A/C adapters to keep next to a secondary machine for ease of portability.
Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this for digital hoarders like myself. As the size of games keeps increasing to well over 100GB for AAA titles, these kind of drives are going to save a lot of time especially if you want to use the games on multiple PCs.

Overall Review: Got this drive for video editing. Wanted something large to store everything, raw video and edited content.
With 8TB, I can’t imagine filling this up anytime soon.
Tested with UserBenchmark’s test, this drive was averaging Transfer Rates around 200 MB/s.
When I offloaded videos from a WD Black 2TB internal drive to this external, the transfer averaged 150-180 MB/s.
Heat doesn’t seem to be as much of an issue as others were remarking. There looks to be a tiny tiny fan in the one front port, and the case itself has air gaps around the whole thing.
I leave this on top of my computer case, where my CPU radiator is forcing hot air under it and the drive seems fine.
It’s warm, don’t get me wrong, but nothing outside of normal HD operation.
Can’t vouch for longevity. But, I’ve owned 6 WD products prior to this, and I’ve only ever had issues with one. And it was bad sectors, so nothing particularly serious. Not only that, since it was in warranty, WD replaced it.
