Pros: This drive installed in XP flawlessly, partitioned with PM, and is faster performance wise than all my other drives(per Sandra), remarkably since it is the largest of 6 drives(Mostly SG, a couple WD). I store DVD and HD video files which take up a lot of space. Price per Gig was the best even when I got it @ $149.99.
Cons: None so far after approx. 4 months. I will update If I get a problem.
Overall Review: What makes a person High or somewhat High in their tech. understanding of these products? Although I am an engineer, I am not a PC hardware engineer so I would guess I would be simply average. I could not design a drive, nor do I have much detailed knowlege of the internals, although I know the basics that google/wikipedia would typically provide. However, many people must, as they describe themselves as having a high, or somewhat high “tech. level”. On the other hand, very few of these people have even mastered the English language, much less technical writing. That may explain the misuse of the “tech. level” self-rating system.
Pros: Fast, lots of storage for a great price.
Cons: Potential problems with NV chipsets as noted….read below for possible workaround.
Overall Review: As others stated, there may be compatibility problems with this drive and NV chipsets. A fix I picked up here was to DISABLE NCQ. It has fixed the problem I had with this drive crashing and locking up Windows and failing to be auto-detected until a cold boot. To disable NCQ, go to Device Manager and find your NV SATA Controller, click on Properties then choose the Port the Samsung drive is attached to and uncheck “Enable Command Queuing”. Disabling NCQ doesn’t lead to any noticeable decrease in performance with HDTach and HDTune or in real usage.
Pros: I got 3 of these to run in a raid 5 array on my 8port 3ware sata card. The drives work with the card and my hot swap bays, they run cool, and they seem quite fast, although I haven’t had a chance to perform any real benchmarks yet.
No idea how quiet they are since my fileserver has 9 other drives and a load of loud fans, but if they’re anything like the other samsungs that I’ve got, they run silent.
32mb cache is nice too.
Cons: I suppose they only have a 3 year warranty vs Seagate’s 5 year… but these drives should be outdated and ready for replacement by then anyway.
Overall Review: I’m glad these came out – I was going to go with 500GB drives in my raid, but I could get 3 of these for just a little more money than 4 500s, get the same effective space on the raid, plus more free slots and a better potential for expanding the raid in the future.
If you’re looking for performance, though, I hear that the 1TB Samsung F1s are far faster… just a bit too pricy for me.
Pros: I’m using this for capacity in conjunction with a WD Raptor for speed. It’s so quiet compared to the Raptor that loading programs, booting OS, etc. is like night & day. It’s also really fast for a 7200 RPM drive, but I’m going to stick with the Raptor for OS/Programs & this for media files.

Overall Review: I picked this up after reading good things about it on tomshardware.com. I’ve never owned a Samsung drive, so I’m hoping it holds up with long term use. So far, so good.
Pros: First, a note to von Bose. The problem you are having during gaming is not the hard drive. It’s your memory, corrupting that data being written to the hard drive. I have an Nvidia 590 board, it has no issue with these drives at all and the 570/590 use the same SATA controllers.
I have two of these drives in a Stripe on an Asus Maximus Extreme totaling about 1.4TB and it is extremely fast. I have own Samsung drivers from 100GB to 750GB. For whatever reason, the jump from 500 to 750GB offers a huge increase in speed. The denser platters are FAST!! Very fast.
Cons: None. Absolutely none. Great job Samsung! I have Samsung drives that are running P2P software 24/7 for about 5 years with no failures. As a matter of fact, I’ve never had a Samsung driver fail – ever. That’s the only brand I can say this of.
Overall Review: I purchase strictly Samsung Hard drives. If you look at Samsung in general in the market place today, everything made by them is top notch. Their Memory, LCD TVs, Hard Drives… etc etc. What a great product. They just need to keep the upper management out of trouble~!!
Pros: plug and play, vista detects drive, did a format and get 698gb if you’re wondering where did the other 52gb went then you should do yourself a favor and google it.

Overall Review: i would consider the 1tb version but the space:price is not worth it at the moment. stick with 750gb for now.
Pros: This drive is both fast and quiet! It was recognized perfectly by the Biostar TA 790GXE motherboard that I connected it to and earns the highest possible performance experience index rating (5.9) in Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit (most likely due to its 32MB cache, IMO). Came packaged in a plastic hard drive shell as well as bubble wrap so I am confident that it was well-protected during shipping!
Cons: None so far!
Overall Review: For those who complain about the so-called discrepancies between the advertised capacities of this and other drives and the capacities that are shown in Windows OSes: This is simply a difference in how the manufacturers have always calculated hard drive capacity (1 KB = 1000 B) as opposed to how Windows has always calculated hard drive capacity (1 KB = 1024 B). Thus, 750 GB is going to show as 750,000,000,000 divided by 1,073,741,824 and will equal 698.5 (rounded to the nearest tenth) GB. Just FYI

Pros: Large platters at 62 instead of 55 thick, this creates a more stabile platter and protects from shock and vibration. Quick, fast and good for HTPC or Server. Price per gig is very low due to a lot of inexperienced users thinking it’s a bad drive due to lockups. FYI, this drive and the 1 T version, especially on an Nvidia chipset is not set up the same as a standard driver lower than 750 Gigs, you must disable Command Queing in the Sata controller in Device Manager. It is stated even on the website for support. Also, Samsung has set it up nicely, large platters with stability and spin fast in mind. You won’t believe the speed with 32 megs of cache.
Cons: Lot’s of users are not researching and then RMA the drive for lockups. Which is what it will do on a lot of chipsets. You must, I repeat, you must go into device manager and select properties for the Sata controller and select the drive #, it will give what drive you are seeing, and uncheck the Command Queing. Then you will be asked to restart to reset the drive. Viola, file transfers stop locking up pc’s.
Overall Review: A possible included support paper would help a lot of these user not familiar with server or large plattered drives. If you have a bios setting for auto or large footprints, do not set it to large footprints unless you want the drive to click through large writes.
