Pros: Fast, quiet, runs cool to the touch
Cons: None
Overall Review: What more can I say? This thing is quiet, runs cool and is plenty quick as a storage drive. I ordered another one, and then 4 more. Very pleased with this hard drive, and to me the 500 is a perfect size, not too small but not so large that in the event of a failure it would be a daunting task to reload.
Pros: Very fast and reasonably quiet drive. I own several of these drives for my RAID 5 servers at home and they all work flawlessly.
Cons: NONE!!
Overall Review: I have been using Hitachi drives for some time now and have been very impressed from the 80GB models all the way up to the 1TB models. Always fast and dependable.
Pros: Hitachi Drives are incredibly reliable. We use these as the staple drives in our editing facility as media drives, in RAID sets, and as backups.
Cons: barefeats and others consistantly rate the Hitachi Drives as slower than competitors, but most enclosure manufacturers will tell you that the reliability of Hitachi and the responsiveness of their tech support make them hands down their number one choice.
Overall Review: With the reliability of these drives so high, we have found only rare reasons to step up to the Ultrastar series. You can’t go wrong with Hitachi.
Pros: Price, Quiet and Cool…Very Fast
Cons: N/A
Overall Review: This is one of the best hard drives in many respects.
Great in Raid setups, cool with quietness, very fast.
Right up there with sammie F1’s almost, and ES from Cgate.
Even in single configs, these are good for 78 to 84 mb/sec.
Very good choice if you don’t trust uptime for backup.
Disk to Disk bakups are super with these in Raid 0.
Every night a DKtoDK Bak only takes 17 minutes with 3 operating systems.
Very Pleased. I think I have on 30 in service all from this recent batch. None bad so far, but anyone can have a bad hard drive. I wouldn’t judge this one too harshly.
Pros: Impressive cost per byte. Low power consumption.
Cons: Manufactured 2007-11. Warranty is based on manufacturing date. The Hitachi web site shows an expiration of 2010-12-07 for my serial number. Newegg could have been more forthcoming in revealing the age of the product being sold. Nearly 25% of the warranty is gone.
Overall Review: Hopefully Hitachi will be flexible if the drive dies less than 9 months after 2010-12-07 .
Pros: I always have used Hitachi Hard Drives, ever since the other brands I have purchased failed. I have always found these drives to be extremely reliable and quiet.
Cons: None, even some really old Hitachi drives I have still work to this day.
Overall Review: They used to undersize the the drives so that they would read their actual size after file block gaps. I wish they would still do this, so a 500GB would actually be 514.37GB and be recognized as 50GB.
Pros: It is still as fast as it was when I first got it. Pretty dang fast. Couldn’t have asked more for a hard drive for a great value.
Cons: None
Overall Review: When I decide to rebuild another computer. Instead of going with this for storage and a raptor for gaming. I will just get another one of these for raid.

Pros: I’ve tried several large drives ranging from 160GB to 1T. I’ve tried several different manufacturers. These Hitachi drives have lasted longer with fewer errors than any other drive manufacturer.
