Pros: I purchased 4 of these drives to run in RAID 0+1 for a new build, and could not be happier. I have seen well over 100 MB/s sustained in data tranfer, (RAID 0) with total redundancy (RAID 1). These drives scream. They also seem to run fairly quiet, but keep the applications very fast. A 3 year factory warranty, and running Vista Ultimate 64 like a charm is not hard to take.
Cons: Cannot think of any.
Overall Review: I did a lot of research before purchasing these drives, and I have found them an outstanding value. I would buy them again.
Pros: It doesn’t work as a hard drive!
So no. None. Goodbye Hitachi, you have flushed your reputation and quality down the toilet.
Cons: It actually made me get all the way through the Windows install before clicking a ton and rebooting to “SMART status BAD, Backup and Replace”
I got this along with a 500GB version of the same drive, that one didn’t even bother starting up it was DOA.
Seriously, just hit your browsers back button and save yourself the trouble I bothered putting myself into. The bad reviews aren’t lying. The good ones obviously got lucky or RMA’ed these until they worked.
Overall Review: No way Hitachi, I’m gettin my money back and going to another brand. Not Neweggs problem, except that they allow these things to be sold. Two DOA’s in one order is just beyond pathetic. I noticed my last Hitachi drive that actually… works was made in Japan, and these two dead paperweights are from China. I love that country. Don’t even bother here, you might get a reliable drive after some RMA’s but by then you could have tried another brand and actually be using them. I’m really looking forward to not having the space I expected to have for around two weeks.
Pros: Owned 2 Drives so far and have nothing to complain about. Good quality at a great price. Runs fairly cool inside a mid-tower case. Fast, very quiet, and good amount of space.
Cons: Had it shipped from the NJ wherehouse and i live in CA. Shipping took 5 days instead of 3.
Overall Review: Other than the non related cons to the hdd it works and is good quality.
Pros: Excellent drive, fast, quiet, trustworthy. 🙂
Cons: Slow spin up, but doesn’t seem to affect it any.
Overall Review: I have had this drive since March 2007 and I have had it in my server runing CONSTANTLY and I mean CONSTANTLY since I got it! S.M.A.R.T. data has warning under the “power on hours” section because it has been on for so long, but all other points say its perfect yet (except the spinup time). It hasn’t given me a single problem, and its still running just as strong as when I got it. As I said, its perfect. 🙂
Pros: When they work they are very reliable.
Cons: Literally the day I got this in the mail, the drive shorted out the exact same chip that burned my old drive of the same model. It heated up so fast that the chip itself desoldered itself from the board and was laying on the bottom of my case smoking.
Overall Review: I had owned a previous version of the same drive when I bought a dell a in 2005, and it died on me last week. Specifically, one of the chips that comminicate from the drive’s control arms to the board started smoking and eventually burned the plastic off. I went and looked for the same model and when it arrived that same EXACT chip fried out.
Pros: No issues with this drive. It is fast, not too loud, and has enough space for my needs
Cons: none so far
Pros: Fast and easy to install. Very inexpensive!
Cons: None

Cons: not a one.
Overall Review: too small for storage needs. thinking about moving it back to my main system and just using it for windows backup.
