Pros: TK1000 Drives
– 0A34915 – Retail Version of the Drive (cables, etc)
– 0A35155 – Barebones version of the Drive
After spending an hour or two on Hitachi’s website and googling everywhere I could think of to find the difference, I contacted Newegg, and they sent me Hitachi’s technical assistance phone number (1-888-426-5214). The drives are identical, so unless you need the cables and a pretty box, go for the 0A35155.
Cons: None.. same great drive!
Overall Review: I found out too late, but at least if you read this you now can figure out which one better suits your needs.
Pros: I selected this drive for a NAS drive. This drive runs cool, meets all speed requirements and has been very stable since I have had it. I had no problems with installation and Oh yeah…it’s an entire TB!
Cons: It’s not the most quiet drive.
Overall Review: I can hear the clicking but I kind of like the sound. Weird?
Pros: Works as Advertised. Fast, very quiet, and extremely easy to install. Price keeps falling, down $50 since I purchased two months ago!
Cons: Ignore the bundled software. It will only cause you pain and sorrow. Slap them in, windows will recognize them and they work like gangbusters.
Overall Review: Really love these drives, purchased two, need to purchase two more!
Pros: Installed in PC, ran auto setup CD(took 60 seconds), Done. Took me longer to clean the dust out of my case than to get this up and running. 931GB Avail space. $30 rebate, sweet. Quite & Fast…
Cons: As with any large single drive, might be a good idea to raid 2 of them for backup. Would be a big loss if it died. I might order another one this week now that I think about it.
Overall Review: Newegg, great service. I transfered 69.6gig from a WD250Gb 7200rpm SATA 3.0G drive to this one in 39mins with nothing else running in the background. (P4 3.56Ghz, XP Pro, 4Gig Ram) Thats 1.78gig per min.
Pros: Capacity
Speed
Cons: Expense
Overall Review: Temp encountered at idle with this drive is 35°C (95°F) which is only 4°C warmer than my WD2500KS and 2°C warmer than my Raptor. Performance is slightly below that of a Raptor, but the capacity vs all-out-performance trade-off is worth it. 5yr warrantee would have been nice. It’ll be quite a feat filling this thing…
Pros: Works 24/7 in a lame case with no ventilation. I use it for recording security video from my DVR. Its constantly writing and rewriting and never takes a break. SO far, so good. except…
Cons: it runs pretty hot. Its running at 50 degrees celsius.
Pros: I make a Raid 1 with two of these hard drives and the performance is amazing

Pros: Huge amount of storage…formatted at 931.4GB on my Mac after I overwrote the entire drive once to map out any surface flaws (BTW, that took over six hours on an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33). Fast…benchmarking sites say it’s just a tick off the 10K RPM WD Raptor drives. Subjectively, I can tell you it’s a real speedster and I’ve had no skipped frames whatsoever when capturing video via FireWire 800. Extremely quiet…I have it in an external WiebeTech case with no fan and it’s unbelievably quiet. But I may move it to a case with a fan…it runs a bit warmer than most drives.
Cons: Relatively high cost per GB of storage here at initial roll-out. It’ll come down in price as the pipeline fills and Seagate’s 1TB drive with 5 year warranty starts becoming available in quantity to compete with this drive. Same situation as we saw when the 750GB drive first came out.
Overall Review: 1. With this much storage on one drive, one should definitely start giving consideration to backing up the contents via a RAID array or other means. No drive lasts forever and when this one fails, you’re going to lose a LOT of data.
2. There are some nuts below my review claiming this drive is loud. Don’t believe it!! They either have an agenda or are mistaking an external box’s fan for drive noise. Or they are “reviewing” a drive they don’t have. This drive is unbelievably smooth and quiet. You literally won’t know it’s running. Look at any responsible review site for like Tom’s for the real deal on this drive.
