Pros: Price, warranty
Cons: reliability
Overall Review: 2 bad HHDs, DOA…are the manufacturing plants having quality control problems?

Pros: Good price point. The drive that worked, works well. Hitachi has treated me rather well over the years. This is my first DOA drive, or even defective drive, of probably 30 or so Hitachi drives I’ve used. Thus the 4 egg rating.
Cons: One of the two drives I ordered is DOA. Windows is unable to format it and Seatools/WD Data Lifeguard is unable to give it a pulse. Blessed be the name of Newegg’s awesome RMA policy.
Overall Review: And to Hitachi customer service, who so kindly provides the information to return defective drives to those who have had DOA’s or failures: We’re not going to return the drive to you unless it’s past the 30 day RMA period with Newegg. Why would we want to go through the pain in the neck process of your RMA as well as wait 4-6 weeks when Newegg will replace it in only 3 days (and often pays for return shipping….). Just sayin…. 🙂 It’s a kind gesture nonetheless.
Pros: cheap, perhaps in single disk mode, they would be useful as a storage or boot drive on an low end system
Cons: would not function in a simple raid 0 config (i have old WD Blue drives in these types of raids).
Overall Review: dont know if the disk were bad or not but we returned them to newegg and got the Hitachi Desktar non AF disk (N82E16822145299). Popped 3 of them in a Raid 0 and been running 4-5 VM’s at a time without any sign of lag (CPU = LGA 2011, Ram = 32gb @ DDr3 1600)
So far the ONLY hard drives i have EVER returned to newegg are AF disk. There was a WD a few months back that i wanted to run as an internal backup drive to my raid array, would not stop giving me read errors (on a windows 7 machine)
as always, feel free to gmail my nickname with questions or comments
Pros: – Speedy HDD for bottom dollar.
– Minimal packaging was a plus for my environment-savvy self (and it’s all recycled!).
– One of the best performance-to-dollar ratios of any common HDD on the market. Not QUITE as good as, say, a Caviar Black (althought there isn’t a huge difference), but it’s significantly cheaper.
Cons: None. It’s a hard drive.
Overall Review: This is the drive you want. Hitachi is a reliable brand.
Pros: This has the best specifications for this price range I could find on the site. Has been working great for five days now, and those five days have been filled with constant partitioning and formatting.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: I agree with the other reviewer, hard drive prices are higher than they need to be. Keep in mind that this hardrive is well priced relative to the other hard drive prices right now. So, at a different point in time this hard drive should cost less.
Pros: Hard Drive Functions well, Cheapest drive for the price
Cons: None
Overall Review: This was the best space per dollar ratio at the time I purchased it.
Pros: Very fast and quiet.
Cons: Began getting the click of death yesterday. It still works for now, but causes hang-ups frequently. I’ve only had it for 2 1/2 months!

Pros: Price was better per GB at the time of purchase.
Cons: Out of the package, the drive had the click of death.
Overall Review: The package had no signs of damage when received. I guess it’s possible that the drive was dropped a bunch of times before being packed and shipped.
I think it’s terrible that alter almost a year since the Thailand flood, we’re still paying more than we did last year before the flood for hard drives. This includes manufacturers that weren’t even affected by the flood. More the reason to go SSD.

Cons: reliability
