Pros: Worked for the first year
Cons: I set it up with a windows server, which was turned off most of the year. The PC couldn’t recognize the drive after a year. Very disappointed. Luckily I’ve got another backup to fall back on.
Pros: The drive runs cool. Overall the drive is quiet as well, I had stress tested the drive for 24 hours with no issues. I am using it for my primary drive. I selected an enterprise grade drive for reliability. Based on the 2 million hour MTBF I expect the drive to be reliable and so far all is well. Overall the Hitachi drives have proven to be reliable. I have read so many reviews of 2Tb+ drives of all brands being unreliable especially for primary drive usage in business systems. I am trying it with this drive because of the increasing data demands for my apps. I intend to RAID this drive with another shortly. So far so good.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: This drive is competitively priced for an enterprise class drive.
Pros: NONE
Cons: Of the 4 drives 2 arrived dead and the other 2 went out in a week
Overall Review: Ordered 4 3TB Drives. They forgot to ship the order had to call the day they were due. 2 drives arrive dead and they said they would ship replacements which they forgot to do again. During this time the other 2 drives went out (yes a perfect 4 for 4) so they sent an email saying that the only replacement drives they had come from the same batch and could go out at any time.
Pros: Bought this and one of the 5K3000 2TB “green” drives. HD Tune V2.55 on Windows 7 x64 using SATA2 controller on older E8400 system, the reads on this one averages 130.0MB/s and bursts to 164.1MB/s. It runs at around 107F.
For comparison the 5K3000 averages 101.6MB/s and bursts to 159.0MB/s and it runs at around 104F.
The seeks on this drive are slightly louder than the 5K3000 but just barely audible outside of an older Antec Sonata case.
Cons: None so far. If it catches fire or causes laboratory rats to spontaneously explode, I’ll update the review.
Overall Review: Hopefully the warranty will still be good now that they’re sold off to WD.
Pros: High Capacity, 6Gb SATA
Cons: None
Overall Review: I ordered 2 of these. One was DOA, the other failed in less than a week. Newegg RMA’d both of them, and the replacements have been working fine in a SAMBA fileserver running 24/7. The first drives were very poorly packaged, so I attributed their failure to shipping damage. The replacements came in air cushion packaging; much better protection. -1 egg for the bad packaging Newegg, but the drives seem to be ok. At least so far.
Pros: large cache and disk capacity
Cons: Faulty drive. It started making loud repetitive clicking noise (~ 1Hz) after my first attempt to copy files to it. It started writing slowly then stopped completely with the copy program freezing. I had to reboot and found the drive was now making the same clicking noise ALL the time – even before accessing the drive.
Overall Review: Other Thoughts: There was no indication of any damage or bad handling on the box.. So this drive is having such a quick failure is strange.
Pros: HGST Has a super high longevity record… If it survives the first few days/weeks. Ran it thru the mill for the first week & a half of ownership – Zero Faults
Cons: Bought it in Aug. 2014 – It was manufactured Oct. 2013 – KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!!! IF you have RMA it without a receipt, you’ll lose almost a year of warranty!
You need to run it thru the mill for the first week or two of ownership… If it survives, the statistics are that it will outlast its warranty without any problems.
Overall Review: Fast – Moving movie data over @ a sustained rate of 67.25 MB/sec from a WD Caviar Black HDD. Regular, daily type data from the same HDD, sustained rate of 37.73 MB/sec – Both times data was moved thru Roadkil’s Unstoppable Copier 5.2

Pros: installed, spun up, showed proper capacity and connection speed in BIOS and OS.
Cons: 1 of 4 drives was bad. it vibrated so violently it shook the server. I checked the SN at HGST and it stated “The drive is not valid for warranty through HGST. Please return product to your point of purchase.” Reading other’s reviews, these are old junk drives that are being rebranded. I’m returning all 4 drives as I can’t afford to use junk in a server environment… even if it is just a test lab.
Overall Review: – will not purchase again
– will not recommend to others to use.
