Pros: Really cheap for enterprise class hardware. Has HP’s onboard OS setup system so it loads server 2012 r2 easy.
Cons: None really .. BIOS takes some time to boot through but it’s a server – shouldn’t need rebooted often.
Overall Review: Using HP servers for the last 10 years, I never thought i’d see one this cheap with the components in it. Has dual NIC’s, RAID and iLO out of band networking. Not really meant for high-end workloads but for 90% of what people use servers for these days, this will easily cut it.
Pros: Used HP’s custom ESXi 5.1U2 install ISO to install on this, everything works out of box. Fully supported by HP for ESXi 5.1U1 and up with their custom install ISO. Someone says you need drive trays, you do not. It comes with 4 non-hot plug blank trays. If you use a small Torx driver and take out the screws they line up perfectly with 3.5″ HDDs.
Installed 2x 4TB Seagate NAS drives and mirrored them, Installed ESXi on them as a single datastore and works great!
Cons: Drive bays are non-hot plug. Knew this when buying. Don’t think it supports RAID5 but haven’t looked, could be wrong. I don’t need it so not an issue for me.
Overall Review: Cost me a little more than building a “white box” server, but no frustration or assembly time. Also has iLO which is great and consumer boards won’t have.

Pros: Easy to setup, built in drivers and other features make installing Server 2012 easy. If you use an oem HP 2012 Server CD, it’s a breeze.
Just add more RAM and HDD’s to complete the package.
Cons: Really nothing.
Overall Review: The included CPU has a single thread rating of 1729 on passmark which is great for the price. It has been rock solid 24/7 for 4 months now.
