Pros: My husband and I searched high and low for a decent, entry level gaming laptop mostly for speed and ease of use to be used for all our laptop needs. This machine really did the trick and we are pleasantly surprised after being slightly hesitant with the lower price point.
-Consistently fast and smooth running (This is the “BIG” deal regarding any laptop and it really hits the mark)
-Great Price
-Good Looking Laptop
-Incredibly quiet fans from what we’ve seen/heard so far, ventilation is great and prevents the fans from needing to kick on much

Cons: -Dim Display – We’ve kept the display at 100% brightness and it could be brighter, but decent all the way up
-Sound/Speakers leave something to be desired but we don’t use them often, it doesn’t affect us much

Overall Review: We would absolutely recommend this product to other people. We are slightly bummed we didn’t get two – now we have to share. (Ha!)
The only thing that I would like to see better is the display brightness. I like bright”er” screens in general, but on it’s highest setting it’s decent.

Pros: the specs are really good. Booted up and installed everything with no problems. I have not ran into any battery problems or any problems at all. The laptop is surprisingly very light weight. This laptop runs popular games pretty well. Gta5 runs on high settings 60fps.

Cons: none so far.

Overall Review: when gaming, make sure you hold the “Fn” key and press “f7” to cycle through the power modes.

Pros: Very user friendly great for some one like me who isn’t great with computers and the performance is great. and very light.

Cons: CRASHING twice or more per day. Not able to generate the full report and when is rebooting….bang straight to the bios page.
Seriously I never had a laptop with this amount of non sense crash activity. MSI fix your built. 1000$ for this is not cool. I do not recommend this brand or model.

Pros: Picked it up for $700 with a free mouse and game, a steal. It seems I bought the last one, as when I went to show the offer to a friend, it was sold out. And for good reason. The 1050 is perfect for a gaming laptop, you’re looking at GTA V 1080 high settings textures with a occasional frame drop to maybe 56fps when there’s high octane action. The fans in this thing are great, easily controllable without going into BIOS, as dragoncenter, a preinstalled MSI application, makes doing that easy. You can have the fan really loud, a bit louder than a stock PC fan, but it keeps it at a chilling low temp, or you can make the fan almost un-noticeable. You can also choose to make it adjust accordingly.

The SSD is scary fast, and after the first long process of updating windows, you’ll notice the boot time immediately, the load speed in games, etc. I have a standard HDD and a hybrid drive, and this being my first SSD, the load time in games like GTA V (which normally takes a long time, even on a hybrid) was surprising. The display is good, it’s nice and sharp, semi-adjustable via dragoncenter. After my experience with this laptop, and MSI parts, I can definitely say they’ve never let me down. I will add that a 1080 display is PERFECT for the 1050, it seems the 1050 is built for maxing out 1080p, and it shows.

I would call the i5 7th Gen 7300HQ processor very close to being a mid-tier laptop processor, in that it does basically what it’s made to do. It would hold up on CPU intensive games (proven by GTA V), it renders videos okay, maxing out at about 78C , and thats with out the fan on full blast. 8GB of ram is great for today’s gaming scene, 4 used to be the standard but as gaming evolves, its becoming more apparent that we need more than that, especially if you’re interested in multitasking. Speaking of that, if you’re interested in turning this laptop into your desktop, you could always connect it to a monitor, since it is multi monitor friendly, it also has plenty of USB ports, even though some are only USB 2.0 while others are 3.

Overall, like I said, it’s been great so far. I bought it because i’m going to be away from home for a bit, and it pairs well with my desktop. I told myself that I probably would just stick with the desktop, but sometimes you wanna lay in bed and play an RPG, or maybe sit in a room without a TV and watch a movie. I’ve never had to turn settings down, the only time it got hot was with GTA V, which is understandable. If you want to get into gaming and want a laptop instead of a desktop, or maybe you just want a laptop to pair with your desktop. Either way, i’d recommend this.

Cons: Upgrading could be a problem if you want 16GB ram, which you’ll need if you want to be up to date and have this laptop for the long haul. It seems ram and storage mods can be performed, but any modifications will void the warranty.

I wouldn’t call the audio garbage, but if great sound is a dealbreaker with you, maybe think about buying a set of HQ speakers or just decide on another laptop.

Small storage. External hard drives are OK for multimedia, but cause stutter and long load times in games, they’re generally not a good idea for gaming. and once again, adding a internal hard drive would void the warranty. If you’re really tech savvy with laptops, go right ahead, but if you screw something up, you’re without a paddle.

Overall Review: The other review that only gave 2 egg review for the hard drive not being “1 tb” is wrong. Anyone with experience buying flash drives or new hard drives know that you never have the “full capacity” available and that’s because of the way formatting works. Also, they didn’t take into account that the laptop has a recovery partition that’s nearly 20gb. Yes it states 595gb for c drive, and 317gb for d drive which adds up to 912gb but you need to look at the capacity in bytes which is 639 billion for c and 340 for d which brings it up to 979gb + 20gb recovery partition which is pretty much 1 tb spot on.

Anyways, I am very satisfied with this laptop as I am upgrading from an old laptop with an integrated intel graphics chip and I can finally play games with higher than 30fps! Now it’s not going to run modern games at 1080 on ultra settings, but it’ll do just fine on medium/high. Personally I find 1080 resolution makes games UI kind of small on a 15in screen so I prefer to game on 720 which allows me to play on high/ultra settings. In the end, I would recommend this laptop for anyone looking for a solid entry level gaming laptop!

Overall Review: I purchased this gaming laptop on Friday, Monday afternoon it was already on my doorstep…now that is service. This laptop has a beautiful IPS screen, nice keyboard that is pleasant to use and good adjustable red backlighting on it, I just find it’s great. The weight is about the same as my Asus X556UQ. Ram is adequate, but it’s nice to know that I can upgrade to 16GB (or 32GB) in a year or two. Performance wise it’s very good, handles easily what I have readily in store to throw at it. I am satisfied with the 1050’s performance (much better than the 940mx on my X556UQ) I can game with higher quality settings, with better frame rates. The SSD drive works good but is a little on the small side (but I only have time for WOW Legion and another game not more than this, so not a deal breaker for me) but there is plenty of storage on the HDD. I was a little concerned about fan noise, but it was to my great satisfaction, once I listened to it in action, that this was silent enough for my taste. I do admit when you use the Cooler Boost button, it could become annoying after a while, but I only use it when I take a gaming break and this laptop stays nice and cool no matter what, this is a great plus for me. The speakers are mediocre, but I mostly game on an external display with an HDMI cable. All in all very satisfied with this MSI laptop!
