Overall Review: Awesome laptop for the price.
I was really looking for a cheaper-end gaming laptop with plenty of storage; more than just a 500 GB SSD that most of the gaming laptops around thid price range include. The 1 TB HDD was honestly one of the biggest determining factors in my purchase, as I’ve got alot of games I want to have installed.
That being said, this is also my first experience with SSD’s in a personal laptop (or desktop) computer, and I’m loving the speed.
The i5 processor is a newer generation that supports AVX instruction sets, for the rare reader that may consider that important.
The Wi-Fi 6 adapter has been great as well. I’ve had no problems using it on a 2.4 or 5 GHz network.
There’s no CD/DVD reader/writer, but external USB reader/writers are fairly cheap these days.
The graphics card has been fantastic, I’ve run pretty much all of my games on the highest (or near-highest) settings without issues.
The backlit keyboard is very nice, thought I’ve personally not found a way to change it from red yet, if it’s even possible.
The RAM could be better, but you can technically upgrade that later on if you want for fairly cheap (note that by doing so you’re likely voiding your warranty). I’ve been running with just the included 8 GB though and again, I’ve been running most of my games with highest or near-highest settings.
I’ve not had any issues with overheating, granted I’ve done no overclocking, and MSI includes a free app that lets you limit how much your battery can fully charge, which supposedly extends your battery life.
Bluetooth, Ethernet, HDMI, and USB ports are there, but there’s also no SD card slot reader, so if that’s important to you, you may want to invest in a cheap USB SD card reader.
The BIOS is also very nice. I have an MSI motherboard in my personal desktop, and it uses a similar BIOS. It was the first I’ve seen that allowed mouse cursor support, among other very useful options.
Overall it’s been great. Would definitely recommend if you’re into gaming outside of your web browser.
