Pros: Extremely powerful, smooth-running laptop. I use the laptop for work and some intense graphic design applications. Startup is very fast, and my work applications run very smoothly. I typically try to keep simultaneous applications at a minimum, but this laptop was able to handle it all without a sweat.
Cons: Major problem with the integrated webcam. Anywhere from 2 to 20 minutes after turning on the integrated webcam, the video feed would freeze due to the camera seemingly turning off. I would have to manually turn the camera back off or on in whatever application was using it. I use the webcam several hours every day, so this is extremely annoying/disruptive to my use of the otherwise great laptop. This problem occurred regardless of what application was using the camera (Skype, Google Meet, Discord, Zoom, etc.)
None of the following strategies worked:
– Changing the power saving settings across USB devices or globally
– Adding EnableFrameServerMode to the Registry
– Updating the camera drivers
– Reinstalling the integrated webcam device through device manager
– Disabling or uninstalling antivirus software
– Reinstalling the Windows OS (hard drive wipe)
– Sending in laptop (paid over $150 for shipping + insurance) to MSI for repairs [they DO NOT pay for shipment]; they replaced the webcam and gave the webcam test an ‘OK’ .
This has been an incredibly frustrating problem to attempt to solve, and at this point I have no other option but to request a complete replacement.
Overall Review: Unless/Until I can get another instance of this product without this integrated webcam problem, I cannot recommend it to others unless they do not care at all about their webcam working well.
