Pros: Easy to use and install. Works just like a usb flash drive after the initial format. The size is comparable to two mass-market paperback books stacked on top of one another, so it is small enough to be portable as needed.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I live next to one of the shipping centers, so Newegg had it at my doorstep before I got the invoice email. Took about an hour to run a format to NTFS (“quick format” option unchecked) with 232GB capacity after the format. Took 4 minutes and 12 seconds to copy a cd image and a dvd image from my internal drive to the MyBook (about 5.4 GB). Would buy again.
Pros: large space with affordable price
Cons: hard drive keeps disconnecting for no reason, especially in the middle of copying file / accessing file.
Pros: This is a very useful drive, it’s fast, it’s reliable, and it’s very easy to use. I’m using it to store my documents and downloads on, and it’s been exceeding my expectations since I purchased it.
Cons: If you don’t access it for a while, it takes a half second or so to spin up, so if you have a shortcut that points to it, that shortcut can take a moment before it opens.
Overall Review: This drive has been invaluable, and if I needed more storage space, I’d pick another one up with out a second thought.
Pros: 1. Small – great desk friendly size. Takes up very little real estate.
2. Great looks – Beautiful design. Looks like a book and has a really cool green ring that lights up in the front. I like it.
3. Works – I plugged this drive in, turned it on. That was it.
4. Easy setup – see line 3.
Cons: None yet….maybe it could have been free? Greatdrive.
Overall Review: Small, smaller than text books i used to carry when i was in school oh so many years ago. Easy setup, pluggen it in and turned it on. That’s all there was to it. Looks great on my desk. Most importantly…..
It does it’s job. My wife is a photographer and i bought it for her. She uses a laptop and was running out of disk space. I was able to transfer all of her pics on to this drive. As her work grows and her storage requirements increase….it’s easy to add another one.
Pros: High quality and worth the purchase price. It’s a good quick method for running backups, archiving videos, and storing other important files. It hasn’t failed on me in the 3 or so weeks I’ve had it. Set up is also easy – just plug in the power, the USB cable, and write away all you want. No knowledge of handling and working with internal hardware is needed. No formatting is needed either (unless you want to use the NTFS file system).
Cons: The biggest weak point is that it seems a bit slow. Tests tell me it writes at about 10.2 MB per second (average sustained speed). The other downside is that, if not used for some time, it makes a sudden fairly audible “click” sound that can sometimes frighten you (especially if you’re less than a meter away from it) and it can cause Windows Explorer to stall for a few seconds just for it to read the WD logo icon. Other than these, there aren’t any other downsides. The low speed gives the 4 rating, but more around 4.3.
Overall Review: I primarily use it to store file backups and archive videos of stunts I do and other anomalies I find in my games that I recorded. Tests show that it writes at 10 MB per second. My test involved using a hex editor (and a custom-made program of mine) to load a 250 MB file entirely into memory then write it all on the hard disk several times. The average speed is about 10.2 MB per second with this. A comparable internal hard drive would sustain around 55 MB per second. The capacity of my particular item is 249,995,193,536 bytes, of which I expected (Windows reports this as 232.826 GB). This is also my first external hard drive I’ve had.
Pros: I generally have better luck with WD and Seagate drives, and this is no exception. It performs as expected and has for over two years of heavy variant usage.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Once you know, you egg your friends.
Pros: Works well with Linux. Lots of storage space.
Cons: none

Pros: Fast drive, plug it in and go. I formated mine to use NTFS security features. Very silent.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I’ve noticed alot of people mentioning this so here goes: Disk capacity is measured as 1000 bytes = 1 kbyte; 1000 kbytes = 1 mbyte; 1000 mbyte = gbyte when the drive is sold and is by definition correct. When your operating system uses the drive it defines them differently 1024 bytes = 1 kbyte and 1024 kbytes = 1 mbyte; 1024 mbyte = 1 gbyte. This is why your 250 gbyte drive is only read as 232 by Windows.
Pros: Easy to use and install. Works just like a usb flash drive after the initial format. The size is comparable to two mass-market paperback books stacked on top of one another, so it is small enough to be portable as needed.
