Pros: – LIGHTNING QUICK TRANSFERS!
– LOW VIBRATION
– LOW NOISE
– NICE FINISH
Cons: – 0
Overall Review: I transferred 150GB in under 5 minutes via the USB C connection! Very impressed!
Pros: Lots of storage for a not bad price. It is a little thicker than other drives I have had (~0.8″), but there is 4TB of storage so it is to be expected. It is also a little heavier than other drives I have had which is good because it doesn’t slide around if you adjust your macbook. Between the weight of the drive and the rubber feet, I don’t think it will be an issue getting pulled off the table.
It does come formatted with HFS+. Windows will not recognize this drive out of the box. If you want to use this drive with both a mac and a pc, you will either need to install an HFS+ driver for windows or try your luck with exFAT (might be buggy for external drives, read up on it before you do it). There is also a procedure for getting a mac to mount a drive as read/write for NTFS, but by default OSX only mounts NTFS partitions as read only. To use solely for windows, you can format the drive as NTFS in windows from the Disk Management utility.
There is a white status LED, it is a little bright, but not blinding. Drive also comes with an adapter if you don’t have the USB type C connector. The Type C connector is USB 3.1 without the usual two flips of the connector before it finally goes in.
Cons: Not much to complain about. The actual size of the drive before formatting with a partition is 3725.99GB. The usable space will be less than this once you format the drive. Unfortunately, I don’t recall what the usable formatted space was before I changed the partitions.
Overall Review: I would certainly recommend this drive. Western Digital is a long standing name in storage and has never let me down.
This drive is 4TB. This is a lot of data you can lose if the drive is damaged, lost or stolen. Make sure there is always more than one copy of all irreplaceable data.
Pros: This is a great drive. They provide a USB-C to USB-A adapter. This is a great idea, as older Mac models don’t have USB-C. The speeds are respectable and the brand is known to be very reliable. It operates quietly and has fast performance that will not disappoint. The drive activity light is soft and not distracting.
Cons: My only con is the aesthetics and it is fairly subjective, and it is not worth reducing the overall rating of the drive.
Visually, the imbalanced geometry of where the seams are on the case bothers me since the two color halves are not a reflection of each other. This does not affect the performance of the drive at all.
Overall Review: You can always reformat it to Windows if you need to, but it is formatted in HFS+ (Mac) out of the box.
I like to use these more for storing bulky content than to use it as a pure backup drive.
Pros: Size is great for carrying when going on a trip or just for leaving on the desk at all times without any intrusion. Color goes really well with the 2017 MBP and no more just backing up onto the cloud when there’s so much space to put all the pictures and other documents I deal with on a daily basis. While it is formatted for use with Apple products, it can easily be reformatted for use with both or just with Windows-based systems.
Adapter included is a nice touch, and something many manufacturers often cheap out on; not this time.
Very fast drive for an external solution, the initial 700GB transfer took a while but after that it was snappy transferring <1GB files back and forth between the laptop and the drive.
LED indicator is getting a bit outdated but still a nice touch to let you know the drive is doing its job.
All in all, a very solid drive that I don’t foresee having issue with at any time.
Cons: Slightly bulky if compared to the thickness of an ultrabook but still very easy to carry around.
Pros: Did EVERYTHING it was supposed to do (…until… see other thoughts)
.
fast as ALL lightning and stayed cool as a cucumber.
.
cool silver metal casing
.
USB 3.0
.
Cons: Not bullet proof XD
Overall Review: It took a dive out of my backpack (fell 1 story when i leaned up against the concrete stairs & bounced down stairs ‘n stuff for another 1 story). THAT didn’t kill it believe it or not, it was my cat swiping it off the counter into the kitchen sink and set over night. I guess water seeped in the banged up case, WHO KNOWS why it died.
Pros: Quiet
I forget that its even there.
Cons: None that I can think of at this time.
Overall Review: I needed to replace my Time Machine drive and selected this one.
Unlike previous Time Machine drives, this one has been super quiet, and I forget that its even there.
So far its done a good job of backing up my Mac which is on practically 24/7.
Pros: The faster USB-C connection works well. I purchased this drive for my Time Machine Backups. It is a faster drive that my other USB SATA drives.
Cons: None at this time.
Overall Review: I recommend this drive because of the USB-C interface.

Pros: This is a nice external hard drive, and fulfils all of my expectations. It’s quiet, slim, and runs cool. It’s able to be powered from just the USB connection without any external power required, which is nice and not guaranteed with a hard drive of this capacity.
I ran some performance tests on it, and got back an average read rate of around 270MB/s and an average write rate of around 94MB/s, with 1000 100MB samples. All in all I think this is absolutely astonishing for an external hard drive. I am quite pleased with the performance.
All in all, the important things that I would look for in an external hard drive are more than satisfied here, I would recommend this drive to others.
Cons: This hard drive is a bit thicker than you might be used to for external hard drives. It isn’t obnoxious, it’s just easily the thickest 2.5” external hard drive that I’ve owned.
Overall Review: As mentioned in the description, this hard drive comes with a USB-C cable. I don’t own any computers with this connection yet, but fortunately they include an adapter to a standard USB 3.0 connection. Unfortunately this does give you an extra part to lose, and it makes the connector to the computer separable, so if you pull on the cable instead of the jack, it will become disconnected. I’m writing this in “other thoughts” for a reason, it’s kind of annoying right now, but maybe in the future the USB-C support will be useful so it might be a good forward-thinking design.
Comes formatted with the HFS+ filesystem out of the box and intended for Mac use, but there is nothing at all preventing you from formatting the disk to any filesystem you want and using it on any other system.
Pros: – LIGHTNING QUICK TRANSFERS!
– LOW VIBRATION
– LOW NOISE
– NICE FINISH
Cons: – 0
