Travelstar™ Z7K500 is the second generation 7mm, 7200 RPM 2.5-inch hard drive from Hitachi, with capacities ranging from 250GB to 500GB leveraging Advanced Format, which increases the physical sector size from 512 bytes to 4,096 (4K) bytes to improve drive capacities and error correction capabilities. Travelstar Z7K500 is the first 2.5-inch HDD with a 6Gb/s SATA interface and 32MB of cache and delivers the highest 7200 RPM performance in PCMark Vantage testing. The 500GB per platter, one-disk models are designed as a direct replacement for standard 9.5mm HDDs, for use in notebook PCs, external storage and gaming consoles, as well as new, thinner and more robust device designs.

Pros: This was a replacement HDD for a Toshiba Tecra R950, replacing the primary HDD of the same model and specs. So far, it’s working just as the old one was! Price was also appropriate for a drive with these specs.
Cons: None so far.

Pros: It’s a Hitachi (post WD buying them), so I expected excellent quality. It arrived quickly and was new and sealed.
Cons: I’ve never had one die so fast before. It didn’t even last 3 months, which may be just a “Bathtub Effect” failure (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve) I resumed my laptop from standby and the drive started making horrible noises. Clicking rhythmically and un/parking the heads, followed by a 0x0000077 BSOD. The failing drive this replaced was doing better than this one is now.
Overall Review: Will update after I RMA this thing. I’d better not get a refurb. I bought new for a reason. Refurbs already failed once and were repaired.
