Pros: I’m not sure we could’ve built a system like this for this price.
Cons: No known bugs or defects. It doesn’t look like our other servers; I don’t think that’s a con, but some might. That’s more about the model or generation than anything else. It looks fine, works fine.
Overall Review: I’m not tremendously hesitant to say this was a good purchase. We bought one a couple months ago, grabbed a disk or two from another vendor, transferred some from other out-of-service servers we have in old racks, it’s purring away with an Open Source OS storing almost 10TB of data for our organization. I figure even with the disks (8 SAS 2.5″, using JBOD/ZFS) we’re not much over $1k. Shipping was reasonably quick, unit was packed safely and booted right up when unboxed.
Don’t forget to order rails; there aren’t any included.
